After last weeks look at ‘softer’ skills, this week we look at HOW TO CRUSH YOUR OPPONENT. We look at some examples from game theory and explore what they mean in terms of magic, as well as taking an in depth look at levelling, and see what other games like poker and chess have to teach us about the game we all know and love.

1. When Math’s involved, you really should mention Hypergeometric distribution. It’s the proper mathematical modeling for Magic.
2. When lines of decision making are involved, you really should mention Greedy Algorithm (locally best) vs Linear Programming (globally best).
Thanks for the comment. I think if we do some analysis of opening hands and outs to a given situation, we’ll mention the hyper-geo.
I have to admit I haven’t heard of greedy algorithms or linear programming. Time to do some reading!
